Our Journey to
Net Zero

Decarbonising our properties and building strong foundations for a shared sustainable future.

By 2030, we will be a net zero carbon business.

We will achieve this through our pro-active asset management, sustainable approaches to development as well as engaging our supply chain and occupiers. These elements underpin our Net Zero Carbon Pathway, a plan to achieve net zero carbon emissions, by 2030.

Decarbonising our properties and building strong foundations for a sustainable future

Our Net Zero Carbon Pathway is built on thorough asset-level energy audits that identify energy and carbon-saving opportunities and costs. Beyond that, each audit sets out a path to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring a smooth transition to a resilient net zero carbon building.
We combined the findings from these audits into a comprehensive group-wide model. This model shapes our targets, strategies, and capital expenditure plans, guiding us through 2030 aligned to Science Based Targets.
We have already implemented many projects on the pathway and, recently, we have started detailed feasibility studies for the most complex projects and technology pilots to further refine our model and align it with CRREM Pathways.
But our efforts don’t stop there, beyond our own direct emissions we’re collaborating with our tenants, supporting their own net zero carbon aspirations. We are also working with our major suppliers to reduce emissions from the goods and services we buy.

Our 2030 science-based emission reduction targets

Our targets are aligned to the Science Based Targets initiative, in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement 1.5°C global warming scenario.

GHG emission reductions from a 2020 baseline year

Scopes 1 & 2

42%

reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions * **

Scope 3

20%

physical intensity reduction (per m2 NLA) in Scope 3 GHG emissions *

*Aligned to the Science Based Targets initiative to the 1.5oC scenario
**Scope 2 Location-based figures used

Science-based targets are designed to be sufficient to limit climate change to 1.5oC in alignment with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Paris Agreement as measured by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

CLS Holdings is a signatory to the Business Ambition for 1.5oC pledge, and obtained SBTi verification of our absolute reduction target for Scope 1 and 2 of 42% by 2030 against the 2020 baseline.

Our 42% Science Based Target is the minimum absolute reduction in our Scope 1 and 2 emissions we will achieve by 2030 and we hope to go further.
